This was the scene outside my Apartment at about Midnight lastnight. Milwaukee was hit hard with a "snow emergency" and there was nothing I could do about it. Although after I took this pic I put my shoveling skills to the test and after about an hour and a half and some sore arms later-I prevailed!

Short Story: Jeremy and I won tix Saturday night at one of our local watering holes to the NFC Championship playoff game at Lambeau! (I mean that just doesn't happen to guys like us-ha!) So Sunday morning came and we headed North. We were dressed to Kill and as you can see-and kill we did.. The ladies loved us and so did the cold!!! Although our Packers did not prevail it was an unbelievable site to bare witness to as you can see below.

O.k. O.k I know-I apologize for my disappearance the last few weeks. Life has been pretty crazy and getting through the New Year was a bit of a struggle-but I did it! So I'm back, baby... all growns up!

I don't buy weekend tickets to Ireland and hang out in front of their gates, but U2 are the only band whose entire catalog I know by heart. The first song on The Unforgettable Fire, "A Sort of Homecoming," I know backward and forward -- it's so rousing, brilliant and beautiful. It's one of the first songs I played to my unborn baby.
The first U2 album I ever heard was Achtung Baby. It was 1991, and I was fourteen years old. Before that, I didn't even know what albums were. From that point, I worked backward -- every six months, I'd get to buy a new U2 album. The sound they pioneered -- the driving bass and drums underneath and those ethereal, effects-laden guitar tracks floating out from above -- was nothing that had been heard before. They may be the only good anthemic rock band ever. Certainly they're the best.
What I love most about U2 is that the band is more important than any of their songs or albums. I love that they're best mates and have an integral role in one another's lives as friends. I love the way that they're not interchangeable -- if Larry Mullen Jr. wants to go scuba diving for a week, the rest of the band can't do a thing. U2 -- like Coldplay -- maintain that all songs that appear on their albums are credited to the band. And they are the only band that's been around for twenty years with no member changes and no big splits.
It's amazing that the biggest band in the world has so much integrity and passion in their music. Our society is thoroughly screwed, fame is a ridiculous waste of time, and celebrity culture is disgusting. There are only a few people around brave enough to talk out against it, who use their fame in a good way. And every time I try, I feel like an idiot, because I see Bono actually getting things achieved. While everyone else is swearing at George Bush, Bono is the one who rubs Bush's back and gets a billion dollars for Africa. People can be so cynical -- they don't like do-gooders -- but Bono's attitude is, "I don't care what anybody thinks, I'm going to speak out." He's accomplished so much with Greenpeace, in Sarajevo, at the concert to shut down the Sellafield nuclear plant, and he still runs the gantlet. When the time came for Coldplay to think about fair trade, we took his lead to speak out regardless of what anyone may think. That's what we've learned from U2: You have to be brave enough to be yourself.

To celebrate the 20th birthday of its landmark album "The Joshua Tree," U2 is reissuing the set in four different incarnations on Nov. 20 via UMe. The album will be available as a remastered single CD, a 2-CD set, a 2-CD/1-DVD collectible box and a double-vinyl package.The single-disc will be housed in a jewel case, but the 2-CD set comes in a hard back case. The 2-CD/1-DVD version has a base and lid to accommodate the discs as well as five portfolio prints. Band members have contributed new liner notes for the package.

The second CD in the 2-disc package sports rare material from the period, including a single edit of "Where the Streets Have No Name" and B-sides such as "Spanish Eyes" and "Sweetest Thing." The DVD comprises a July 4, 1987, show at the Paris Hippodrome, as well as the documentary "Outside It's America," a long-whispered-about but never released video for "Red Hill Mining Town" and an alternate version of the "With or Without You" clip. Produced by Brian Eno, "The Joshua Tree" shot U2's commercial fortunes into the stratosphere. The album's first three tracks were huge singles, with both "With or Without You" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Station Agent-

Wilco's new energy beats old gloominess

-Tweedy's newfound health shines onstage-

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy has always been one of the gloomier puppies in the rocSo who was that cheery im postor Tuesday night upstairs at The Rave? This guy was starting clap-alongs, running in place, telling little jokes, even whistling. What happened to the Jeff Tweedy we knew and loved with reservations?
He's evidently been replaced by this guy who's kicked drugs in favor of run ning five miles a day and actually seems to be having a good time on stage. Better yet, the Tweedy muse seems to be in romping good health as well. To this observer, Wilco has never looked or sounded better.
Wilco started out as an alt-country Frankenstein cob bled together from the leftover pieces of the late Uncle Tupelo. Over time, the alt -country profile of Wilco has diminished, to be replaced by a tuneful roots-rock posture.
So what is that has made Wilco a critical darling and cult favorite? To these ears, it's certainly not the lyric writing. For me, Tweedy's lyrics remain often oblique with a vague streak of nihilism.
But the tunes - the tunes are first-rate. With a lot of the songs on the band's most recent outing, "Sky Blue Sky," Tweedy establishes the lyrics in the first half of the song and then lets the band stretch out on the second.
For Wilco, there's magic in that simple formula. Tweedy may be a control freak, and Wilco has seen its share of personnel changes over the years, but the current lineup with Nels Cline on guitar is flat-out stupendous. As Tweedy himself observed Tuesday night, "We're firing on all cylinders."
The guitar lead on "Side With the Seeds," was just gorgeous, and the backing on "Impossible Germany" was just as lustrous. And the writ ing is varied. There's a kind of high-gloss pop sheen to "Je sus, Etc.," while the band's country chops resurface on "Sky Blue Sky."
Tweedy even managed a lit tle joke in introducing the housework-as-therapy tale "Hate It Here."
"Are you still having a good time?" he asked the crowd. "All right. We won't stop." That may not sound like much, but by Tweedy stan dards, it's a Robin Williams riff.

Opener-Andrew Bird
Opening for Wilco was another Chicago import, Andrew Bird. In concert, Bird is a stunt artist, but an engaging one. What he does is use modern technology to expand the old one-man band idea.
A multitalented instru mentalist, he'll play mando lin, guitar, violin and loop the instruments as he goes along. By the end, you have a full, layered sound that resembles a small chamber orchestra.

After some minor research into the depths of Eddie Vedder's wine pallet, I found an interview he did about a year ago explaining his taste of wine. The only clear and defined answer is of course his first.

As long as it's red and there's a spare in the back. There's this homemade stuff some friends have been making for me for the past few years, and I can't do without it now.

What kind of grapes?
I can't tell you; there's a bit of variation there. On the first leg of our last tour, I had been drinking regular wine, but I got the good stuff for our last show, and I don't know what kind of grapes they are but it's twice as potent. I realized this about halfway through the show. It was a political fundraiser, so I was like, "Damn I really gotta sober up!"

Finally the Donner Kids have arrived after a long awaited reunion I finally got the chance to see them again! It was a great weekend in the Windy City for a few days. Gus, Scott and I got in a Cubs Game on a gorgeous Friday afternoon, as well as some music at a local festival. The kids were great and Gus and I bonded as we had to let go of some bodily fluids in a back alley-Way to go GUS! We discussed Jennifers Beaver once again and came to the conclusion that YES it is still funny! HAHA!

WEll... I am heading up North this weekend for my annual "Graceland Excursion" Yikes... I hope all is well on the outside-stay tuned for pics from the Northwoods...

Finally Summerfest has ended!

This was my scene last night as friends and I ended the two week festival. G-Love and the Special Sauce closed the fest down last night, and I personally couldn't think of anyone better. This was my third time with G-love and it was just as good as the first.
All in all the Fest is unlike anything else. The diversity of the city of Milwaukee, it's people as well as the music is truly magical. I can't wait until next year!

What's up Everyone? I want you to meet someone very dear to me and who is a new addition to the Cabin family. His name is Monkey or Eddie, he really doesn't care. Monkey comes from deciduous forest growth just outside of South Asia and traveled all the way to the states only with a bananna in his hand. He Ended up somewhere in Baltimore only to make his final stay in Merrill Wisconsin. Little did he know his journey wasn't completed. Monkey was just bought by myself at a garage sale that my sister and I stopped at on the way to the cabin. So... With bananna in hand and a grin on his face Monkey made the trek North and is now in Monkey Haven!!! Welcome Monkey may all your Monkey dreams come true!

HOME AT LAST!!

I am home, and it's great! I just opened the windows and it's a beautiful day here in Milwaukee, adding to the morning is Mr. Bob Marley himself, so really it's a good day so far!

I figured I would give you a bit of an introduction into the pictures you are going to be viewing on my blog. As you know, I was in Connecticut for work for about two weeks. When I wasn't working I had the chance to get out and go see a few things? It was really a great area we were in.

So first off you have the Yale District. Yale University is located in downtown New Haven, roughly twenty minutes from where I was staying. New Haven is relatively small, but has a great downtown square around the campus along with much night life-not really sure how they get any studying done there? So needless to say we hit the Yale scene a few different nights, a few frequent bars, one actually called "BAR" as well as possibly one of the best $2 a slice pizza joints EVER!

Continuing you will be seeing some wonderful sights of Boston, Mass. Oh yeah and a Baseball Park they call "FENWAY"! Yeah that's right, not only was I outside of it, but also caught the first game of the first series of the year with a team by the name of the New York Yankees. GO SOX! Fenway was amazing, you could smell the tradition and the legendary green that it is surrounded in screams nostalgic. The bars around Fenway were filled with Bostonians rooting on their Sox, and everyone seemed to love baseball, it was truly magical! We scalped three tickets at Fenway-two standing room and one box seat just off first base. The three of us switched off innings, and I had the pleasure of sitting in our box seat the last three innings, when the Sox came back from a 6-2 deficit to win the game in the ninth! I have seen alot of games and alot of comebacks, but this was different, you really felt part of something! So needless to say the celebration started, as well as my great rendition of "Sweet Caroline"! Saturday we toured Boston, and it was a beautiful day! Saw some great history, along with a bloody mary and a Reuben at Cheers, and before you know it we were back at Fenway for game 2, GO SOX!

So, that's it really? There is too many pictures to post, but I will try to get most of them out in groups. Of course there will be some various Miscellaneous pics, but it truly was a great trip both work and leisure, and I have been eager to share it with you. Well first off let me apologize for my absence. I have been in Connecticut for work and have not had many chances for posting anything new. So, WOW what a trip! I think I have given the saying "work hard play hard" a new meaning. Our off nights have been fun discovering new sites as well as new people. I took a weekend trip to BOSTON as well as my first Fenway game. HOLY COW! Anyways sorry to be brief but I have so many pictures to share, which is my first priority when I get home this weekend. Opening Day Anyone?

It was my first opening day at Miller Park, and I have to say it was pretty Crazy! First off the weather was great, although it was a little cloudy in the morning, the clouds broke, and it was 65 and clear skies for the first pitch, although the roof was closed. It was a pretty uneventful day for the most part, at least for me, just good company and good baseball. Even though I will never lose faith in my Cubbies, the Brewers, the fans, and the city is hard not to love. We started the tailgate shortly before 9a.m. that morning. Many of my friends were in attendance, and holding various tailgates around the stadium, so of course I had to stop at them all! In closing the Brewers pulled off a great home opener against the Dodgers (7-1). Thanks Everyone for showing me a most excellent time, and is along as the Cubs aren't playing-GO BREW! Baseball is here!

Feathers Birthday Pub Crawl Extravaganza! Let me just start off by saying if you ever need a bit of a pick me up, just get on a bus because you will never no what you'll find?

What a night, and to think I was planning on staying in. "So I guess we're getting on the bus" that was all it took for Wegs and I-minutes later I am assisting in the lifting of Female Keg stands, not a bad gig? I know it's hard to believe, but I was just an innocent bystander throughout the night. Although between Wegs attire, a money-lip sync rendition of "My Girl", the stolen traveling glass, me wanting to beat up anyone who was mean to princess Feather, and a cab ride that just wouldn't end as well as the fare? It was a great night! Happy Birthday Feather, Can't wait until our next adventure!

I will be the first to admit it, I lost my MOJO! I am here today declaring that yes I am without MOJO. I don't know what happened? I think when you sort of let yourself go physically, as well mentally, your MOJO disappears? What is MOJO? Well I think it differs from person to person. To me it's a certain swagger, a confidence if you will. Now, I can say that I do believe that I am on the right track in reclaiming my MOJO, which is good! So why write about it? Well it's more of a personal journey, ones "pursuit of happiness", but at the same time I felt that it needs to be shared. So, with that said I am on a mission, a mission I cannot fail, and if I succeed-which I will, and my MOJO has been reclaimed, look out-I may just surprise you!

It has been a long winter but today I heard the sound that every golf enthusiast dreams to hear as that ball hits the bottom of the cup! A spectacular eighty degrees in Milwaukee today, and the crowds were out. My buddy Wegs and I only got in nine holes, but it was well worth it, even if the play was a bit slow. I didn't perform the greatest but I did get my first birdie of the year. Bad play was the least from our minds, and soon had us coining the phrase "It's just good to be out here". Take advantage of these nice days, because I'm afraid they aren't completely here to stay yet? Gotta go, but like my dad always says "Remember to keep your head down".

I have been very Patient with this albums release date, after months of twisted rumors Modest Mouse's eagerly fifth album has finally arrived!

First off, Johnny Marr (Smith's guitarist) on any album is worth it's price of admission, as well as his influence on tracks like "Florida". I have not listened to the complete album, but am well into it. Of course "Dashboard" (first single) which has been on airwaves for awhile, is such a true melodic mouse track. Also "missed the boat" which is a bit more relaxed but lyrically is simply sweet. Modest Mouse has the ingredients for greatness, and are well on their way.
